Consumers Are Concerned About The Employment Situation
A recent release by Consumer Reports found many consumers are becoming uncomfortable with the economy - mainly due to the current lack of job growth.
The Consumer Sentiment Index rose to 48.5 for the month of July, slightly higher than June's numbers. Despite the increase, the index is still below a comfortable level.
"The economy is treading water and really hasn't shown any momentum toward recovery," said Ed Farrell, a director at Consumer Reports National Survey Research Center. "Consumers remain cautious, especially households with income less than $50,000, who have been hurt the worst and face the biggest stresses regarding jobs, unpaid bills, and health care access and affordability."
The job market's problems have been an issue for many Americans, as unemployment is on the rise. In addition to this, other aspects of the economy have struggled. Because of these problems, consumers should make sure their expenditures do not outdo their earnings. Also, it may not be wise to wait out to see if the economy improves in order to look for debt relief options, as a job loss can make the situation much more difficult.
