Airline Fees High
A recent report from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics showed American airline carriers made approximately $5.7 billion last year.
Baggage fees made airline companies the most money during 2010, netting $3.4 billion. Reservation charge fees were the other large revenue stream for airlines, as the collective American corporations earned $2.3 billion last year.
Other fees are charged by multiple airline providers, but the Bureau of Transportation Statistics is unable to separate them from other fees. Other earnings beyond ticket sales are included in other revenue figures. Further statistics from the government organization have not yet been released, including fourth quarter data from last year.
Consumers who frequently fly U.S.-based airlines have to pay significant amounts of money for extra fees, and this could become quite the financial burden. Though many frequent fliers use airline miles to pay for some trips, many of these people pay frequently with plastic. High prices, along with excess charges can rack up quickly and can bring about a laborious amount of credit card debt.
New government regulations in place for consumers in need of debt relief for credit cards and other unsecured debts.
